Department of Philosophy Optional Pedagogical Formation

Pedagogical Formation Education is a training program that provides the educational sciences knowledge and teaching profession competencies required to practice the teaching profession. Students who are enrolled in, or graduates of, undergraduate programs outside teacher-training faculties (such as the Faculty of Education) that serve as a source field for teaching positions may, upon completing this training, become eligible for appointment as teachers at institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education.

Under the Ministry of National Education's "Principles for Teaching Fields, Appointment and Course Assignment," the Department of Philosophy is recognized as a source department for the Philosophy Group Teaching field. Accordingly, students of our department have the opportunity to acquire the legal qualification required for the teaching profession by taking the Pedagogical Formation courses offered as an elective.

📌 Important Note: Pedagogical Formation courses are elective courses. They are not a mandatory component of the program; they simply offer an option for students who wish to pursue a career in teaching.

Scope of the Program

Within the scope of the Pedagogical Formation Education, students are expected to gain basic competencies in the following areas:

  • Introduction to Educational Sciences — fundamental concepts of education and the theoretical basis of teaching-learning processes.
  • Development and Learning — student developmental characteristics and learning theories.
  • Teaching Principles and Methods — effective instructional design and the application of methods and techniques in the classroom.
  • Measurement and Evaluation — approaches to measuring and evaluating student achievement.
  • Classroom Management — maintaining classroom order and managing student behavior.
  • Teaching Practice — observation and practical teaching experience in a school setting.

Who Can Benefit?

  • Students enrolled in the Philosophy undergraduate program who wish to pursue the teaching profession,
  • Generally students from the 3rd year onward or those in their final (graduating) year,
  • Students who meet the academic and administrative requirements (e.g., Cumulative Grade Point Average) determined by the University.

Outcome of the Program

Graduates of the Department of Philosophy who successfully complete the Pedagogical Formation Education become eligible to take the Educational Sciences section of the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS) and to be appointed as a Philosophy Group Teacher at state or private educational institutions during the appointment period.

ℹ️ Note: Details such as quota numbers, application requirements and the course schedule are redetermined by the University each academic year within the framework of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and Ministry of National Education regulations.
